It’s all in the Family

Follow a daily checklist. As the parent, you are a vital part of your child’s accountability and success, and you need to be sure to support them with reminders of what is due each day and follow up when things are missing or need correction. Your student’s teacher will put out regular announcements with assignment instructions.

Keep supplies all in one space. Easy ideas include a cubby, a bin, or a rolling cart.

Provide a hard surface with no distractions. This can be a kitchen table, coffee table or desk (just not your child’s bed)! What is most important is that it is set apart for learning—there should be no loud TV monitors or distracting conversations around.

Take breaks! Have your students eat a snack, or run around and play outside for a few minutes!

Display their work. If your child does something new in art or writes a paragraph the teacher compliments, display it! There is nothing more rewarding than to feel proud of something you have done, and our children want to see us proud of them! Tape it to their bedroom door, put it on the refrigerator, or if you have the space, hang up a cork board with everyone’s work in one place.

You MUST have a schedule. In order to maintain the privilege of in-home learning through Launch, we must value the need for our students to have a schedule to their day. Have a plan for your child’s day, and follow through on it!

Communicate with your student’s teachers. If a student is struggling to understand an assignment, and/or if you as the parent are as well, the absolute best thing to do is reach out to your teacher! They are eager to help and are typically ready at any time of the school day for questions.

Make learning fun! Set up reward systems! Sticker charts are amazing for younger students. You can plan for Sonic drinks every Friday after a successful week, or enjoy learning outside when your students are following directions and staying on task.
