Beckham’s Big Dreams

Ask 6-year-old Launch student Beckham what he wants to be when he grows up, and you’d better have a minute. “I might be more than one thing,” he says. “I don’t think I have enough time to work them all, but I can work a couple.”

Beckham goes on to discuss his potential future careers. “An artist? That might be fun,” Beckham says. “A scientist? “That might be fun too. A book maker? A movie maker? I might want to be all of those, too.”

Beckham, a kindergartener from St. Charles, knew all about Launch when it was time for Kindergarten thanks to his older brother, Lionel, who became a Rocket in fall 2021. Now Beckham is charting his own path—and he’s especially into science. “I like Science because it’s super fun,” he says. “There are so many things to figure out.”

This week, he’s extra excited for one of his upcoming classroom assignments. “We’re doing a science experiment,” Beckham says. It uses two cups of water, soil, sand, and rocks. Some materials will sit in the sun, others in the shade.

“Is it hot? Is it warm? Is it super warm? Is it super hot?,” Beckham asks, explaining how he’ll check the temperature to see what happens.

When he’s not experimenting, you might find Beckham in a buddy breakout room talking Pokémon, writing stories, drawing, animating, opening trading card packs, or heading outside to the park. “I don’t have enough time every day to do all the things I like,” he says. “I just like so many things.”
